Report By: June Clark
Show Date: Thursday, 9th May 2008
Performer: Phil Tempest – Yamaha HX1

Opening the Show – the first of many medleys including “With a Song in My Heart”, “Another Show”, “On a Wonderful Day Like Today”, “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “That’s Entertainment”.

A Latin medley – including “The Summer Winds”, “It’s Impossible” and “Never Never Never”.

A stunning March medley – Phil’s

The music of Lerner & Law from “My Fair Lady” including “It’s Almost Like Being In Love”, “Wandering Star”, “I’m Getting Married In The Morning”, “Wouldn’t It Be Lovely”, “I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face”, “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “On The Street Where You Live”.

Gershwin’s Jass & Swing – “Let’s Face The Music And Dance”, “”I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm”, “I’ve got Rhythm”, “Fascinating Rhythm”. Phil performed an outstanding solo section on the pedal board.

A classical performance of a Czechoslovakian piece of music entitled “Czardash”.

Opening the second part of his show, Phil performed a Spanish Medley.

The music of Lionel Bart’s “Oliver” – “Oliver”, “Who Will Buy?”, “As Long As He Needs Me”, “Good, Glorious Food”, “I’d Do Anything”, Oom Pah Pah”, “Where Is Love”, “Got To Pick a Pocket Or Two”, “I’m Reviewing The Situation” and “Consider Yourself At Home”.

A Tribute Medley dedicated to the memory of Klaus Wunderlicht “Mr Hammond” – including “Strangers In The Night” and “Something Stupid”.

RAF March medley including “633 Squadron”, “The Dam Busters” and “Aces High”.

Lonnie Donnegan and George Formby medley including “Passadena”, “My Old Man’s A Dustman”, “When I’m Cleaning Windows”, “Standing On The Corner” and “Leaning On a Lampost”.

Phil’s encore was a beautiful rendition of “If I Only Had Time”.

If you calculate 10 medleys of, say, an average of 5 pieces of music in each one, this totals 50! If there was a gold medal awarded for variety and continuity, Phil would be the undisputed winner. An immensely enjoyable evening – appreciated by us all - of live entertainment at its best.
