Report by: June Clark

Performer : The Longhorn Trio
Instruments : Yamaha EL900, Yamaha 9000 Pro, Yamaha PSR 8000, Roland RD150 Stage Piano

David, Richard and Martin from York gave us a wonderful evening of music ‑ performing on a Yamaha EL900, Yamaha 9000 Pro, Yamaha PSR 8000, Roland RD150 Stage Piano and some fantastic saxophone solo sounds from Richard throughout the evening. There was something for everyone. Getting us “In The Mood" was their opening performance, followed by more Glen Miller melodies "Moonlight Serenade", "At Last" and "Mountain Greenery", going on to play two Quicksteps "Just One Of Those Things" and "How High the Moon".

Latin rhythms followed with "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" and, from the 60's “I Only Want To Be With You" which we think most of us remembered the words but were too shy to say so!

Taking turns on the organ, piano and keyboards respectively, the Trio went on to perform: "The Lady Is A Tramp" and "Up Where We Belong” the Theme Tune from the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman". "Medley Time" or "Mudley Time" as they call it up North! The Theme from the "Pink Panther", "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head", "Cantaloupe Island" and "Water Melon Man". Slowing the tempo down, we were treated to a beautiful rendition of "Love Changes Everything" performed on the PSR8000 and the EL900.

Turning up the volume on to Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock”, "Hound Dog", "Good Golly Miss Molly", "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Burning Love". We needed the interval!

The second half of the Trio's performance contained "Rivers of Babylon" and "Obladi, Oblada". On to James Last a firm favourite amongst our members: "Swinging Safari", "Games That Lovers Play", "Zambesi" and "That Happy Feeling". The mood changed to Latin with "Maskanada' and "Tangerine".

We had a real treat from Richard with his version of "Baker Street” the Gerry Rafferty classic from the early 60's boy, can Richard make that Sax sing!

The Longhawn Trio are very active members of the York Organ and Keyboard Club and they entertained us with a composition written by Mrs. Pat Sadler entitled "Soft and Saxy", a truly wonderful rendition with the blends and sounds of the keyboards and that magic Saxophone. Then came "The Sound of Music" with "Maria", "Edelweiss", "Lonely Goatherd", "DoReMi", culminating with "Climb Every Mountain". Foot tapping and hands clapping, we all joined in with some good old rock and roll "This Old House", "Goodie, Goodie", "Johnny Be Good".

With time sadly running out, we were given a very special rousing treat on the EL900 "Land Of Hope and Glory" the full, unabridged Philharmonic version.

Of course, the evening could not have finished without calls for an encore and we were treated to some fabulous sounds for "When The Saints Go Marching In", “Alexander's Rag Time Band", "I Got Rhythm" and the modem jazz style and melody of "Sweet Georgia Brown".

So many members expressed their pure enjoyment and appreciation for a fantastic night of musical entertainment. If you enjoyed it too, please be sure to tell ALL your friends!

Our sincere thanks to The Longhawn Trio for their entertainment mostly played from memory they have a great professional future and are a joy to listen to. Well done, lads. We look forward to welcoming them back.
