Report by: Brian Waters

Performer : Paul Carman
Instruments : Orla GT 8000

Our Members enjoyed yet another excellent concert on Thursday evening the 9th March when Top Orla Demonstrator, Organist/Entertainer Paul Carman visited our club playing on Orla GT 8000.

Paul has been to our club several times now and always provides us

a good varied concert and this concert was as good if not better than I have ever heard him play, he was confident right from the start - producing some nice sounds from the Orla!

The standard preset Organ flute sounds on this instrument are always nice to listen to and Paul started his concert with the ‘The old oak Tree ‘ before going into several other classic tunes we all know, he also played a very nice piece which was his own composition.

Paul mentioned that he has released a Cd - his first I Believe, which will be on sale soon! I am sure this will sell well for him! He went on to play ‘ Moon River’ and then ‘Birth of the Blues’ and a nice version of ‘The Way we Were’ featuring Oboe and Strings.

We then had a Theatre organ Selection including Matt Monro’s ‘Portrait of My Love’ and then ‘ Wish upon a Star’. and up to the interval with

Misty sound of the Saxophone and the n the Carpenters classic ‘Top of the World’.

The usual interval, which included the Raffle, time to replenish our drinks, and for members to have a chat we were ready for the Second Half.

Paul had asked people in the first half to suggest some styles for him to play along to in the Second half and members provided some for him

some styles that were requested were Dixie/Country Waltz and music was provided admirably.

There was also a varied selection of our sort of music performed including March’s some Count Basie Big Band ‘April in Paris’ ‘As time goes By’ the list was endless and Paul’s friendly chat with the odd joke thrown in went down well with everyone.

Judging be people’s comments at the end a very pleasant evening was enjoyed!

Next month we have the incredible Elizabeth Harrison, paying her first visit to us a concert not to be missed so come along and enjoy two hours of great entertainment, you will not be disappointed.
