Matthew Bason visited the Peterborough Post Office Club to present
a concert hosted by the Peterborough Organ and Keyboard Club on Thursday
Evening the 10th June and provided us with a very pleasant evening,
playing a good selection of music performing on Technics GN9 Technics
Piano, and also playing on the Accordion.
Only 24 years of age and playing for
us for the first time Matthew started his concert with a couple of
March's and then a Classical piece' The Swan Carnival Of The Animals
by Saint Saens. A 'Moon' melody followed with Organ
sounds including ' Fly me to the Moon', 'Blue Moon', and 'Moonlight
and Roses' and then a Reginald Dixon selection 'Cheek to Cheek'
'Dancing in the Dark', 'Changing Partners, ' I do like to be
beside the Seaside' amongst others.. Matthew mentioned that he
was the Resident Organist at Ashorne Hall in Warwickshire playing
the Wurlitzer for some time until it closed down recently.
Moving to the Piano for a Very nice Melody including ' What Kind
of Fool'and 'Dream of Olwen .' and then back on to the
Technics GN9 organ for a ' Latin Melody '.Then followed a big ' Big Band' selection
to take us up to the Interval including some Glen Miller favourites.
.
In the Second Half Matthew played on the 'Accordion' for us which
made a nice change with numbers including' Under the Bridges of Paris'
-Tulips from Amsterdam and 'Scotland the Brave,' there are
not many Organist on the circuit who play Accordions!! Another nice Piano melody followed with ' Smoke Gets in your Eyes' ' The Very Thought of You 'Charmaine and some other ballads. Then back to the organ for some '
Ivor Novello' Music featuring some Orchestral sounds we had: 'Someday
my Heart will Awake' Well Gather lilacs and' Rose of England,
and some others. A 'Sing a long' Selection ended the
Concert and then Matthew was asked to do another and finished with
the 1998 ' World Cup Football Song: 'Nessa Dorma'The audience although small, seemed to
enjoy this concert and Matthew came across well to them, and it could
well be that Matthew will return to the club for another concert sometime
in the future.
Our next concert is with Tim Flint
on 8th July 2004 on the Roland AT90 at 7:30 we hope to see you there
