International Organist and one of
the Uk's to Top Musicians and Entertainers visited the Peterborough
Post Office and Social Club on Thursday evening 8th January for
a concert hosted by the Peterborough Organ And Keyboard Club.
Tony Back was paying his
first visit to the City, and produced a great 2-hours of entertainment,
which included him singing and playing live on the Harmonica
and performing on Yamaha EL900.
Tony started with a melody, which included songs from the shows featuring
the organ sounds, and then a song followed entitled: ' Hurt' one of
his own compositions.A selection of music by the 'Shadows'
followed which sounded terifific and this was followed by 'Meditation'
by Thais, .featuring Solo Violin and Strings .A popular 'Sing- a -Long'
selection followed with all the favourites including: Side-by-Side,
I do like to be Beside the Seaside etc. Then followed a selection of
Irish songs by Joseph Locke and then up to the interval an
arrangement of 'Hoedown'. Featuring Hammond Organ sounds.During the interval, there was
a lot of interest in Tony 's Music table, and he seemed to do well
with his Music books and CDs, also Club Member Andrew Hearne was
there complete with computer demonstrating the Clubs new Website which
he has recently set up this created considerable interest. The second half included many
requests and Tony's style of playing was amazing and just some of
the highlights included a selection by Andrew Lloyd Webber Phantom
of the Opera, songs, 'Matt Munros' Born Free ' and 'Portrait
of my Love'. Then followed some Stephane Grappelli sounds including
the popular 'Sweet Georgia Brown.' A lovely arrangement followed
of Gershwins ' Rhapsody in Blue', which was outstanding. The programme finished with
'River Dance' and as there were continued calls from the audience
for more, Tony obliged and ended with singing ' The Sunshine of
your Smile.' This was a really great concert featuring a wide
selection to suit everyone and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.The club has since received a
card from Tony Back saying ' we are a Super Club! and that he had
a great evening with us, we think a very nice gesture.
We hopefully will have him back
again for another concert in the near future.
