On Thursday Evening February 12th
- International Organist and Top Entertainer from Japan - Chiho Sunamoto
visited our Club to give what turned out to be another great concert
and there was a larger audience than usual to enjoy the concert with
the club making a small profit.
Chiho had not been to Peterborough
for almost ten years and a visit from her
was long over due, and playing the Yamaha EL900m she started her concert
with some music from 'South Pacific.'This was followed by the Classic
Film hit ' Singing in the Rain' and then came a lovely version
of the 'Oldie' The Grandfather's Clock - featuring the some
great 'clock' sounds on the EL900.Chiho then sang the Popular song 'Send in the Clowns' and the audience seemed to particularly
appreciate her lovely singing. A selection of about twenty
'Snippets' of Classical Hits followed and the audience were invited
to name the Composers, and the popular, Ravels 'Bolero' followed
this. Chiho then sang a nice version
of 'My Funny Valentine' appropriate for this time of year with
her playing piano accompaniment. Then came ' When a Man Loves
a Women' and this featured some great Jazz organ sounds, and then
to finish the first half we were treated to some Count Basie Big band
sounds and then Glenn Millers ' Moonlight Serenade .'As is usual with most artists
Chiho had a range of her CDs during the interval and Andrew was with
us complete with laptop talking to people about the clubs Website,
and of course we held the raffle as usual. The Second half consisted a selection
of music from 'West Side Story' - followed by some Japanese
music featuring some really appropriate sounds, then a beautiful arrangement
of 'As Time Goes By' this featured Trumpet, Vibes and
String sounds. A selection of Film music followed
including: 'Mission theme' 'Enter the Dragon' and a selection
from Harry Potter. To end her programme Chiho played
'River Dance' and after a really good ovation with the audience
wanting 'More ' she then ended with a Big Band Number - 'Tequila' Another entertaining evening
was enjoyed by everyone, and we will not be waiting another ten years
before she returns,.
