Perfomer: Martin Atterbury
Instrument:
Roland AT70S
On Thursday evening the 8th April
the club hosted a concert given by Martin Atterbury playing
Roland AT70 Electronic Organ. This was Martin's first visit
to Peterborough and he seemed confident and friendly. He started off
his concert with 'Old Comrades' and this was followed with
a melody of songs from around the Continent, featuring some nice sounds
from the organ.
A nice version of 'Can You
Feel The Love Tonight' from the Lion King and then a melody from'
Around the World' and the Steel Drums were particularly nice.
A Rousing Big Band Number
'Opus One' was followed by three popular favourites 'Prisoner
of Love ',' Feelings' and ' When Joanna Loved Me.' which
was pleasant listening.
Martin was quite chatty and has
a pleasant personality and he told us of his association with top
organist Howard Beaumont in Scarborough and mentioned that Howard
plays regularly at the 'Spa Promenade' during the Summer Months
and that Howard has asked him to stand in for or him to play on some
occasions there.
A selection of music followed
with the popular West End Show 'Les. Miserables' and then up
to the interval with some Sing a Long George Formby Favourites, and
of course the Banjo was evident.
Some CDs and Tapes were on sale
during the interval, and of course we held the usual raffle.
Some 'Irvine Berlin' music started
the second half with favourites:' Cheek to Cheek' 'Face the
Music and Dance' and the Seasonal ' Easter Bonnet' from
Easter Parade.
Another thing Martin mentioned
was that he was actually in a hotel with his family in Scarborough
in June, 1993 when part of it succumbed to the elements of the sea
and plunged into it, which must have been a very frightening experience
for all.
Others songs in the second half
included a nice version of Patsy Clines 'Crazy' which featured
Piano and Saxophone and Trombone and this was followed with selection
of Samba's- and then a selection of music from the 'Merry Widow'.
Some of the audience, which was
slightly down on previous months called for more at the end and Martin
then gave us a selection of songs from ' Good Old England'
including Always be an England, White Cliffs of Dover and Land
of Hope and Glory.
